Welcome to my portfolio
My name is Paola Castillo and I am a designer who finds inspiration in my everyday. When I am not designing, I enjoy spending time with my family, drawing, cooking and gardening.
In this page you will find some of my architectural projects and my collection of works of Art.
HOTEL GREAT NECK, NEW YORK
For this job, I was responsible for the programming of spaces and revised building code. I also prepared lightING, landscape planS, and model.
the challenge on this project was trying to align spaces for structural and load-bearing walls and non-bearing walls. I readjusted the sizes so activities to be performed made sense.
This is a three-story 82-room hotel. It was designed for the town of brookhaven, new York, on a j business 8 district. 103 parking spaces were provided for this project.

The great neck hotel counts with indoor pool that works as ADA pool. Ada rooms, mechanical room, housekeeper rooms, continental breakfast area, lobby and other important features conform this structure. My contribution to this project was to curate programming of spaces, structural, interior, parking calculations and other.
ROSSI'S MONUMENT PROTOTYPE

For Aldo Rossi's project Monument to the Resistance, I transformed and combined typological elements into new organizations. I took the elements of the project: column, extruded triangle, extruded rectangle, and stair and transformed it into a new variation of the project.

The extruded triangle was sloped in order to allow water to flow through. So, I thought of sloping it 1/8" in/ft. The extruded triangle was roughly 1 ft long approx. and multiplied by 1/8" ft, the result was an 18-degree angle. The two columns support the structure (extruded triangle), penetrating the triangle. And the viewer is centered at a reasonable distance where he/she enjoys the view uphill, like a waterfall.
